Meet Jason Q&A Style
Introduce yourself
My name is Jason Thomas Greathouse. I’m 47 years old, been married for 23 years, have 2 kids, both raised and educated in the public schools here in Tennessee. We have lived in Spring Hill since 2006.
I like to think of myself as a bit of a self-made man. You might be surprised to learn that I don’t have a college degree. I started my career in IT and Internet Technologies, turning screws and building computers on an assembly line. I worked hard and learned everything I could from those around me. 25 years, many mentors and a few jobs later I’m now Director of Infrastructure for a financial privacy startup.
I like a Dad Joke and yes I am pretty big nerd (literally, I’m 6’4”).
Tell us about your family
My wife of 23 years, Kendra, runs a small business doing costume design, sewing and alterations.
She has been an active volunteer with The Well Food Pantry here in Spring Hill and was Costume Coordinator for the Summit High School Marching Band 2022-2024 seasons.
Our eldest, Amelia, finished their Girl Scout Gold Award and graduated from Summit High School in 2020. They received their Bachelor of Science in Physics, Magna Cum Laude from East Tennessee State University in 2024. They are currently in a Masters/PhD program at McGill University in Montreal Canada.
Zachary graduated from Summit High School in 2024. He achieved his Boy Scouts Eagle Rank in 2025. He’s currently working on a Bachelors at MTSU.
Both of our children found their “tribe” with the Summit High School Marching Band program. Amelia went on to march summers with Music City Drum and Bugle Corps, competing in the 2021-2023 seasons. Zachary has followed in Amelia’s footsteps, marching summers with Southwinds in 2022-2023, Music City in 2024 and just finished up the season marching with the Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps in 2025.
Side Rants: Part 1
Amelia could be using their talents here in the USA, but our representatives are busy defunding science and education…no grant programs == no science. Our best and brightest have to go elsewhere. I don’t think this makes us great, do you?

I feel that programs like music, and sports like marching band are invaluable for inspiring our children today. It’s critical that we fight policies like the Bill Lee’s “Voucher” program that is taking funding out of our public schools and drain resources from programs like these.
Why did you move to Tennessee?
In 2006 we were living in San Diego with one child and another on the way. We were renters stuck in a ballooning housing market. We were surviving but not really thriving. We started looking for places where we could break the paycheck to paycheck cycle and maybe afford to buy a house.
Good friends of ours moved out to Tennessee to be closer to aging family. We made a trip out to visit and decided that this could be the place for us.
I found a job out here, so 8 months pregnant with Zachary (Kendra may never forgive me) we took a chance, packed up, said our good byes and started a new adventure.
My parents are Tom and Mary Greathouse.
Thomas (Tom) Greathouse served in the Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict. Honorably discharged in 1971, he went on to finish his degree and work the Job Corps program for 41 years.
Mary grew up on a farm in Idaho. She received a degree from Boise State and met my father while working for the Job Corps program. They were married in 1975 and I arrived on the scene in 1978. She took a break from working while my sister and I were in grade school and went back to work to help support our family.
When my father retired in 2014 they packed up and followed us out to Tennessee. My father passed away in 2019 to complications from Parkinson's disease. My mother is still with us and currently lives down the road from us a bit in Spring Hill.
Who are your parents?
Side Rants: Part 2
The Job Corps program is a Congressionally funded, free residential education and job training program for under-privileged youth. Despite wide bipartisan support, and providing benefit to over 2,000,000 students over the last 60 years, the Trump administration and is attempting unilaterally defund the program to shut it down.
Instead of defunding programs like this, we should be strengthening them. Tennessee should be a leader in public education programs, not 47th in the nation.
Bonus: Lets get Nerdy
I hear you’re into cars?
Yup, right now I have 2 classic project cars I try to find time to work on. First is a 1974 VW Beetle that Amelia and I work on together. The second is a 1973 Datsun 240z. Like all good project cars they go through phases of running and not running. Right now we’re in a not running phase.
Wait are those picture of you in armor?
I have been participating in Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) Armored Combat for just about 30 years now. Events are like going to a Renaissance Fair, but everyone is a participant. There’s tons of activities for every aspect Medieval life. The tall guy with the black and white crest on his helmet is me.
I met Kendra at an SCA event and we have been participating as a family ever since.
D20 or D6 games
Yes. But I have a soft spot for fancy dice.
How many 3d printers do you own? Would you say you have a problem?
Hey did Kendra make you ask this?
I currently have 7 3d printers. 5 Bambu P1S, 1 Prusa XL, 1 Prusa MK4s
What’s the last computer game you played?
Looking at my Steam library, Project Zomboid. It’s hard to find time lately, but I’ve also been enjoying drop in games of Helldivers 2 and occasionally I’ll binge a marathon game of Stellaris.
What do you read/listen to?
There’s the serious political theory stuff, but when I’m out for a walk or driving I tend to listen to a lot of sci-fi. Some of my current favorites: Expeditionary Force by Craig Allison, Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman, Red Rising by Pierce Brown.
Do you do any other martial arts or combat sports?
Besides the Armored Combat, I’ve done a bit of Muay Thai and rolled Jujitsu a couple of times. I also enjoy playing Airsoft.
